Rawabi, September 15, 2018 (WAFA) - The Rawabi Tech Hub hosted on Wednesday the 2nd edition of Slush Global Impact Accelerator (Slush GIA) for Palestinian startups to select the companies that will represent Palestine at Slush 2018, the largest annual startup conference in Europe to be held in Helsinki on December 4 and 5, and the Helsinki Bootcamp program from December 2 until 8, a Rawabi press release said on Saturday.

 

Nine local startups presented their projects to representatives of the conference and a panel of Palestinian investors from the technology and business sectors sponsors of the event, such as Ibtikar Fund, Assal Technologies, Social Dice and Siraj Fund Management Company.

 

Gamify, which is a company that helps other companies reach more customers by creating interactive games for marketing, won first place.

 

In the second place came the electronic platform "Inggez", whose idea is to help people find a sports clubs to be able to use its facilities for one time without having to buy a monthly membership.

 

In the third place came the "Receipt" application, whose idea is to transfer the paper bills received from stores to invoices received on smartphones through the use of the application.

 

Finland's ambassador to Palestine, Anna-Kaisa Heikkinen, said that what distinguishes startups is that they do not know any sand can develop rapidly based on the ideas of those managing them. The Slush GIA is an opportunity to open many doors for the participants to grow, she said.

 

Hans Shakur, Slush GIA representative in Palestine, said the entrepreneurs who are behind the startups are the ones who can change the country's economic situation and create the jobs that young people need.

 

He said they only need support to participate in global conferences and to work according to international standards.

Bashar Masri, the founder of Rawabi city, stressed the importance of this competition, which showcases the role of the entrepreneurs in Palestine.

 

"I have seen bright ideas from startups at the Slush GIA conference in Palestine, which we hosted for the second consecutive year. I am proud that the three winning companies will represent Palestine in Finland at the end of the year. Rawabi and Siraj Fund Management Company are always ready to support creative ideas for these creative young minds that work to build our Palestinian state,” said Masri.

 

Conference representatives and sponsors said they will cover travel expenses for the winners who will represent Palestine at Slush 2018 conference and GIA in Helsinki.

 

Slush GIA is part of Slush - the world-renowned annual startup conference, the biggest in Europe bringing together over 17,000 participants from all over the world and over 2000 investors every year. Slush and Slush GIA are created in collaboration with the Finish Foreign Ministry and other multiple global partners.
