Housing Typologies

The housing at Rawabi will be the first in Palestine to be built employing specific design principles in order to maintain a cohesive design. Nine different housing types will be available to prospective buyers.

Two basic residential units proposed are townhouses and apartments. Most buildings consist of two units per floor. Typical floorplates have flexibility to bend or flex with the curved road network. The townhouses typically terrace up the slope in order to reduce cut and fill and provide private gardens for residents. The apartments provide balconies for residents.

Balancing the challenges of respecting the local cultural and market driven needs for primarily large family units consisting of a salon, living room, kitchen and three bedrooms all sensitive to the need for views, natural light and air as well as personal privacy with the steep slopes of the site required developing a series of unique building typologies. These buildings have two entrances: an “uphill” entrance and a “downhill” entrance.

In addition, car parking is an integrated part of the design of these buildings and is located at the base of the buildings. Parking is screened from the street and home zone and has internal access to the units.
